Tis The Season

Thanksgiving
We enjoyed a simple at home family feast with all the fixins.  No guests this year, unless you count the unwelcome cold and cough bugs that have decide we were the perfect hosts for their Thanksgiving celebration.

Traditionally we get a live Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving.  Aunt Elynn was in town so we all set out together to find the perfect Christmas tree.  Of course you have to let the tree settle for a day so we turned our attention to something else . . .

A Gingerbread Creation.
This year we decided to make a bridge.  We also decided to use real homemade gingerbread instead of graham crackers. Daddy drew up the plans and baked the required amount of gingerbread to meet the specs of his plans.

First we have to make the "glue" (royal icing).

"Yummy"

The assembly process begins:

Making progress:

Almost done:

We then let the icing harden a few hours.

Time to decorate:

While we were busy decorating Rachel was busy eating!:

Elizabeth was a little more dedicated to the cause:

The final results of all our fun efforts:

A to-scale model of the London Bridge (almost).

On Saturday we got to decorate the Christmas tree:

Rachel was excited to put ornaments on the tree all by herself:

With supervision from mommy of course:

Elizabeth decided to add her duck key chains to the tree:

We had a great time decorating the tree:

Finally with not a branch left to fill....
