Please, Please, Please Can We Have . . .

A Puppy?!
Rachel has been asking, ahem begging, for a dog for over a year. Lizzy has been afraid of dogs since a traumatic incident several years ago when two dogs barked and growled in an attack like way at our family as we were walking home from a friends house. We found out later that one of the dogs was pregnant and the other very large dog was likely protecting her. It was a scary situation actually for all of us, but no one got physically hurt.

During our vacation this year, Lizzy had a miraculous (literally) recovery from her fear of dogs and was now repeatedly asking for a dog too:

After much consideration the girls were most interested in getting a "Goldadore" Golden Retriever/Lab mix puppy.

Secretly, Mommy had been looking online at the local listings of puppies up for adoption. On Friday Mom decided to show us the Pet Rescue website with the puppies up for adoption. Most of the listings had pictures of the puppies to go along with the descriptions. We came upon a *description only listing of a Lab/Shepherd mix 2 month old puppy named "Luna". There were several other puppies listed from this litter and the girls were more than ready to go check out all these puppies in person.

So...we took a trip to the Pet Rescue. We got there right when they opened in the morning.  Mom asked about "Luna" at the front desk and the lady said that Luna was not yet adopted but was living with a foster family and was not at the shelter today. She then led us to the puppies onsite.

We met some puppies:

The first one was very mellow and sweet:

The second one was super-hyper active:

We looked at all the puppies but just could not decide on one.  It was a Saturday and Pet Smart has animals brought in from all the local rescues for adoption on Saturdays (including several of the puppies from this shelter). We decided to drive up the street to Pet Smart (it was only a few miles from where we were).

There were a lot of dogs (and other animals) at Pet Smart and we looked at all of them. One of the workers from the Pet Rescue place we were at earlier was there too.  We could not get "Luna" from the website listing off our minds so we went up and asked her if we could meet Luna.  She made a phone call and sent a text and in just a few minutes we had an appointment to meet Luna back at the Pet Rescue in 30 minutes.

We ate lunch and headed back to Pet Rescue and waited for the Foster Family to bring in Luna.

She arrived dressed for the occasion:

She was fairly relaxed and gentle:

With a little bit of playfulness:

And perfect puppy kisses:

We all knew that she was The One!  Daddy started the adoption papers:

We officially expanded our little family:

Welcome home Luna:

Sweet puppy joy!

*We found out that Luna came from a litter that was very neglected. The reason her picture was not posted on the adoption site was because she was very malnourished and needed much care:

What a difference good care and an awesome foster family makes:

You have a Forever Home now sweet Luna!
