Week Eight Day One Trail Adventure: LEAFS: Longleaf Ecology and Forestry Society Interpretive Trail:

This is a self-guided interpretive trail:

About this trail: The longleaf pine is only found in the southeastern United States. The trees on this trail were planted about 25 years ago to restore losses due to fire and logging. The trail has multiple side trails and we took a few. There was not really anything exciting on these trails, but it's nice to be out in nature and learn about this ecosystem:

Despite the seriously hot day these two still had happy faces:

It was so hot outside Rachel melted to the ground. Lizzy managed a partial grin:

We decided to hike near the lake a bit. We will be back again another day to hike the longer trail located on the other side of the park:
