Week Seven Day Five Trail Adventure: Halpata Tastanaki Preserve:
We tried to go to Pruitt Trail but it was closed and this was the closest trail.

First time here!

Rachel said "Dad would love this tree!" He does like oak trees and this is a nice one indeed:

Where did all these come from?

Shells on the trail. . . unexpected surprise

Anyone know what type of butterfly is waiting in the wings

One of my favorites:

Can you tell what this is?

How about now.

A turtle shell that was picked apart by:

These guys were circling for more!
Now what is this? There were no signs or explanations. However, the preserve is named after Seminole leader Hálpata Tastanaki (Chief Alligator) who, along with Osceola, Jumper and approximately 1,000 warriors, took part in the largest battle of the Second Seminole Indian War in 1836:

Lizzy stated "This is a Sound of Music moment" and began to spin. Perhaps the history of this preserve was having an influence over her (which has little, if nothing, to do with the sound of music):

A variety of birds were active on the preserve. A great place for birdwatchers:

A great resting spot:

End trail pic. I'm not sure what sign hugging means, but we had a nice time out in nature:
